Built from old-growth Honduran mahogany purchased 50 years ago by Kazuo Yairi himself, the Alvarez Yairi Honduran Series Folk/OM guitars display some of the finest tones and playability ever bound within a wooden frame. Constructed from this remarkable tonewood that has been seasoned to near perfection these past 50 years and benefiting from a bright AAAA-grade Adirondack spruce top, the Alvarez FYM60HD shines as a golden example of Yairi craftsmanship. This handmade acoustic delivers superb response with a rich voice and resonation you can feel in your bones and music-making soul.
It was almost a mistake when Alvarez stumbled upon the Honduran mahogany that now forms the bodies for the Honduran Series. Mr. Yairi had purchased the old-growth tonewood around 50 years ago and since then it has seasoned in a near perfect climate, forgotten to the world until now. In other words: tonewood gold. This special mahogany exudes a stunning character with rich, full bass and strong trebles, while its AAAA-grade Adirondack spruce top adds sweet articulation and tons of headroom. What's more, its lightweight composition makes it comfortable to play for hours on end. Gig with it or record with it, you'll love it for any application.
While the stellar tonewoods are show-stoppers themselves, the Alvarez FYM60HD boasts a range of other appointments and construction attributes that combine to make its tonewoods truly shine. For instance, a Direct Coupled Bridge developed by Mr. Yairi in the 1980s serves to add response and projection by transferring more vibrations from the bridge into the top of the guitar. Also, the FYM60HD's mahogany neck, which contains a dovetail joint, found its shape through spoke shaving done by hand to ensure maximum comfort while fretting in any position. Lastly, stunning inlays, a real bone nut and saddle, and Gotoh tuners are exceptional appointments that’ll make this instrument your next family heirloom.
